Profile description for matrimony examples you can adapt today

Read them for structure, not for copy-paste. The good ones all open with one concrete fact, add one human detail, and end with what they are looking for.

Do not post any of these word-for-word. Duplicate text reads generic and gets flagged; swap in your own details, numbers and hobbies.

By gender

Bride · professional

I am Ananya, 26, a product designer in Bengaluru. I grew up in Mysuru, completed my masters from NID, and have been designing apps ever since. Weekends are for filter coffee, long rides and sketching whatever catches my eye. I value honesty, humour and a partner who is kind to the people around him. Family matters to me, and I am equally ready to build one of my own with the right person.

Groom · professional

I am Rahul, 29, a software engineer with a product company in Hyderabad. B.Tech from Nagpur, then Bengaluru and Hyderabad for the last six years. I keep fit, follow cricket closely and travel whenever work allows. I am straightforward, close to my family, and looking for a partner I can be friends with first: someone with her own interests and an easy laugh.

Written by a parent

Parent writing for daughter

Our daughter Meera is 27, a dentist running her own clinic in Pune. She completed her BDS from Mumbai and has a warm, practical nature. She loves Carnatic music, gardening and travelling with friends. We are a well-settled family of four, and we would be glad to connect with an ambitious yet grounded groom for her.

Parent writing for son

Our son Aditya is 30, an architect with a growing practice in Delhi. He studied at SPA Delhi and has his own apartment in Noida. He is respectful, soft-spoken and close to family. We would be glad to speak with a well-educated bride who values an equal partnership and a calm home.

By situation

Situations stated plainly, once. Never with explanations or blame.

Never married

I am 28, an MBA working in marketing with a consumer goods company in Mumbai. I have never been married and I take my time choosing well. I enjoy football, stand-up comedy and attempting Sunday biryani. Looking for someone curious, kind and honest about what they want.

Second marriage / divorcee

I am 34 and divorced three years ago. I say it plainly because I have nothing to hide. I work as a civil engineer in Coimbatore and my daughter stays with me. I am looking for a mature, accepting partner who understands that we come as a package and wants a calm, honest life together.

Widowed

I am 36 and was widowed four years ago. I teach mathematics at a college in Lucknow and live with my parents and younger brother. I am financially secure and ready to marry again with someone patient and understanding.

NRI

I am 31, a data analyst in Dubai for the past six years, originally from Kochi. I visit home twice a year and plan to settle in India in the next few years. I enjoy swimming, concerts and trying every cuisine I can find. Looking for an educated partner willing to build a life between two worlds.

Homemaker

I am 28, from a traditional but broad-minded family in Surat. I manage our household and my mother’s catering business. I am warm, organised and the person everyone calls when something needs fixing. I enjoy painting and terrace gardening. Looking for a caring professional who respects partnership in every decision.

Busy professional

I am 33, an orthopaedic surgeon in Chennai. My days are long and I like them that way. I read non-fiction, run three times a week and am quietly funny once you get past the first ten minutes. Looking for someone secure, kind and happy to build a busy household with me.

By tone

Traditional

I am a 29-year-old government employee based in Bhopal, from an orthodox but loving family. I have completed my B.E. and am settled in government service. I am God-fearing, well-mannered and deeply attached to my parents and traditions. We are seeking an educated, cultured bride from a respectable family.

Modern

29, government employee, Bhopal. But make it less formal. I like my job, my guitar and slow Sunday mornings. First one at every cousin’s wedding, still the one who plans them. Looking for someone with her own thing going on and a good laugh.

Short (under 40 words)

27, designer, Mumbai. Reading, running, an absurd amount of chai. Looking for someone kind, curious and done with games.

Partner expectation blocks

This block is separate from About Me on most matrimony sites; keep it kind and concrete.

Expectation block

We are looking for someone between 25 and 30, ideally working, from a family that values education. We care far more about temperament and kindness than checklist details. Someone based in Maharashtra (or willing to relocate), with a modern outlook and a warm relationship with family would be a good match.

How to write it

Six rules that separate a read profile from a skipped one

Every example above follows the same skeleton. Here it is, broken down.

  1. Open with one concrete factAge, profession, city go in the first sentence. “I am a 28-year-old teacher in Pune” earns the next ten seconds; a life philosophy does not.
  2. Stay between 60 and 100 wordsFour to six sentences. Past 150 words people skim, and skimming misses the line that would have interested them.
  3. Add one detail only you would write“Filter coffee and sketching” beats “I like travelling”. One specific detail does more than five adjectives; it gives someone a way to start a conversation.
  4. State marital status once, plainlyIf it applies, one factual mention (“divorced three years ago”) is enough. No explanations, no defence, no chapter on the past.
  5. Keep preferences kind and concreteEducation, values, temperament, lifestyle rather than height, complexion or salary. Preferences invite replies; checklists end conversations before they start.
  6. End on what you want, not what you refuse“Looking for someone curious and kind” invites. “No time-wasters, don’t contact if…” repels, and it is the first thing anyone remembers about you.

Then read it out loud. If a sentence sounds like nobody you know, cut it.

Never write this

What gets profiles skipped or flagged

The fastest way to ruin a good description is one of these six.

  • Your phone number, WhatsApp or email inside the description; matrimony platforms hide or flag profiles that move contact off-platform.
  • Salary, CTC or net-worth figures. Income belongs in the field provided for it, not in prose.
  • A list of demands (height, complexion, caste, salary) phrased as conditions. It reads as an ultimatum, and everyone else has better-listed options.
  • Any detail about your ex, the divorce proceedings or custody arguments. The description is about the next marriage, not the last one.
  • Negativity in general: “no time-wasters”, “don’t waste my time”, “tired of fake profiles”. A defensive bio signals a defensive person.
  • An example pasted word-for-word. Duplicate descriptions read as fake and are exactly what moderation tools are trained to catch.

If you would not say it to someone’s face at a first meeting, it does not belong in the description.

FAQ

Profile description questions, answered

The eight things people search alongside “matrimony profile description”.

How long should a matrimony profile description be?

Aim for 60 to 100 words, roughly four to six sentences. Shorter reads evasive, much longer gets skimmed. Anything past 150 words loses most readers before the sentence that would have interested them.

What should I write in my matrimony profile?

Three parts: one concrete opener (age, profession, city), a middle with your values and one real detail about your life, and a closing line about what you are looking for. That skeleton covers every example on this page.

How do I write a description for a boy or a girl?

The structure does not change; only pronouns and details do. The generator above switches voice automatically when you pick the profile gender, and the example bank is split by bride and groom so you can see both.

Is it okay to write in my parents’ voice?

Yes: third-person parent profiles are common and expected on matrimony platforms, especially when parents manage the search. The “Parent voice” tone does exactly that, in your parents’ plain, respectful style.

Should I mention divorce or widowhood in my description?

Yes: once, factually, in the first two sentences. Stating it plainly signals confidence and saves everyone time. Leave out reasons, timelines of the past marriage and anything about your ex.

Can I just copy an example description from here?

Do not post one word-for-word. Duplicate text reads generic and is what moderation tools flag. Use examples for structure, then swap in your own city, profession, hobbies and wording.

What should I never put in a profile description?

Phone number, WhatsApp or email (platforms hide such profiles), salary figures, demands phrased as conditions, past-relationship details, and anything negative about other people still searching.

What is the difference between a biodata and a profile description?

A biodata is a formatted document: facts laid out for printing and sharing. A profile description is the short prose field inside a matrimony site or app. Many people need both: generate the description here, then build the full document with our biodata maker.
